• Next Hunger Games
Our next Hunger Games is a little different than our previous ones. Called "Battle Royale," this Hunger Games will feature one lucky class to be sent to the Hunger Games together. Mr. Dressler's honors history class tried to ignite revolution in Panem. And for their trouble, they will be sent to the arena together. Join us by making a high school junior (16-17 years old) from District 11. See the Battle Royale Subforum for more information. We aim to start in December so now's the time to start developing your character!

After four years, we have decided to close down Sixth Station. The site has meant so much to many of us who spent countless hours into our game. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our game.

The 101-Fall Hunger Games are wrapping up. You have 24-48 hours to enter the final posts. Members can still post in the "History of Sixth Station" and the "Connection" forums.

District Ten smelled like death. Of course, that wasn't unusual, it smelled like death every day; the scent wafting down from the slaughterhouses and settling on everything like a thick layer of grease. Vera trudged down the main street, walking who knew where, just trying to get as far away from her mother as she could. Not that it was possible to get that far, however, as the district was only so big, and she didn't have the money or the energy to visit a different district today. So she statyed in Ten, walking down the street and kicking rocks with her already worn and scuffed boots.

Her mother would have reprimanded Vera for how she walked, telling her that "A lady stands straight and with poise!" Of course, Vera would never have followed her mother's orders to act lady-like, much prefering to spend her time doing the exact opposite.

She spied a warehouse a little ways off; it looked old, even from this far away, so she headed towards it. The building was at almost the complete opposite side of the district from her own home, too far away - and anyway, too dirty - for her mother to think of looking for her there.

It didn't take long to reach the building. Motes of dust swirled in the thin streams of light that shone through the slates of the building, and illuminated the inside of the warehouse with a thin, grey light. The inside of the warehouse was just as run down as the outside; the rubble of a partially collapsed loft took up a fair amount of the space that Vera could see. A heavy smell of rot permiated the building, floating thick in the air like fog. A chill went down her spine, and she shivered; the rot she could smell wasn't wood, it was different, sharper, with a bite of iron. It was like the smell that drifted from the slaughterhouses, only worse, more bitter, more immediate.

She crept through the warehouse, kicking up small clouds of dust as she went, squinting in the low light. The smell got stronger the farther she went, soon becoming almost overpowering. She coughed, covering her nose and mouth with her sleave. It helped somewhat, the smell was filtered enough to allow her to breath without gagging. Picking her way through the wreckage of the fallen loft, she kept her eyes trained on the ground, making sure she wouldn't trip and impale herself on a broken piece of wood.

She pressed on, though the smell made her cough and gag. She wasn't exploring the warehouse for the fun of it anymore; now, some part of her wanted - needed - to find the source of the smell. It wasn't too difficult to find.

Slumped against the back wall of the warehouse, free from the debris of the fallen loft, was a human shaped figure; though it bore little reseblance to anything human. Its features were rotted away, and flies and maggots crawled on the flesh. What little flesh that was visible was mottled blue-grey. Its eyes were gone; eaten away by maggots. A rat squirmed out from behind the corpse, its fur smeared in gore, and ran in Vera's direction.

The rat broke her silent shock, and she screamed, stumbling backwards. Her heel hit something solid and she fell backwards, catching herself on a piece of lumber before she hit the ground. She barely felt the sting of the splinters covering her palm as she ran, sprinting away from the corpse, and through the warehouse, weaving her way through the debris to the door.

Outside, she leaned one-armed on the warehouse doorway, her splintered and bleeding hand clutched at her stomach, as she heaved onto the sidewalk. She had seen dead things before; while watching the Hunger Games, she saw people killed, and she had seen dead animals on her own farm, bloated and rotting like the body in the warehouse. This was different though, this dead thing was once human, and now it was cast away to rot like an animal.

It was later than he was used to on the job. He wasn't used to working up this shift, he was filling in for one of the usual night guys. He was sent to the outer areas of the town, simply because there was no use for him at night in the middle. His adept hearing and his skills in apprehension were more useful out near the fields. It's why he not only had a gun, but a tranquilizer gun and handcuffs.

He thought the night would be quiet..silent...But then he heard some wretching. Undoutably, someone was barfing, and violently. He followed the noise, gun raised...Till he reached it's source: A young girl about his age, standing infront of an abandoned werehouse and vomiting what he could assume was dinner, lunch, and what hadn't digested of breakfast. Well, that was concerning.

He walked to her, lowering his gun completely, approaching her carefully. "Miss...Are you alright?" He'd address her being past city gates right now later.

There was nothing left in her stomach when she heard the voice. It was quiet, concerned, sounding like it belonged to a man. Vera twisted around, surprised, her hand held over her mouth and her feet ready to run if she had to. Panic over three corpse turning quickly to panic over being cornered at night.

The first thing she noticed about the owner of the voice was that he was tall - probably around a full head taller than herself. The second thing she noticed was his gun, and a gun meant that he was a peacekeeper, and a peacekeeper meant...well, a peacekeeper could mean anything. She relaxed slightly however, realizing that if he was going to shoot her he would have done so already, not asked her if she was alright.

She still watched him warily as she wiped her mouth on her sleeve and took a couple deep breaths. The corpse, and who better to inform than a peacekeeper?

"There...there's..." She couldn't help it, her voice shook slightly as she spoke, "there's a dead body in there."
