• Next Hunger Games
Our next Hunger Games is a little different than our previous ones. Called "Battle Royale," this Hunger Games will feature one lucky class to be sent to the Hunger Games together. Mr. Dressler's honors history class tried to ignite revolution in Panem. And for their trouble, they will be sent to the arena together. Join us by making a high school junior (16-17 years old) from District 11. See the Battle Royale Subforum for more information. We aim to start in December so now's the time to start developing your character!

After four years, we have decided to close down Sixth Station. The site has meant so much to many of us who spent countless hours into our game. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our game.

The 101-Fall Hunger Games are wrapping up. You have 24-48 hours to enter the final posts. Members can still post in the "History of Sixth Station" and the "Connection" forums.

The theory that four had been the aim made sense when Krieger considered it; this child was a clever one indeed. He gestured to an ugly cement building with one hand, expecting the children to not be too impressed.

"There you go, animal shelter. And keep in mind, there's horses and cows out back too. Every so often someone's animals get loose and we have to keep them somewhere so they can be picked up."

"Lets go around to see the cows!" Ocelot exclaimed. Civet scowled at his sister. "We have to go inside and find Pika!"

"And Juneau!" Ocelot shot back quickly.

"But Pika first."

"Juneau probably already found Pika." The two siblings seemed to consider this in silence for a moment, staring at the building thoughtfully. Ocelot looked away first, turning towards Krieger.

"Couldn't we just go take a peek at the cows first?" She wheedled hopefully.

"Lottie don't be such a brat," Civet grumbled, glaring at Ocelot. Ocelot didn't pay her sibling any mind, watching for Krieger's reaction instead.

So the girl was Ocelot, making Civet the boy... he could remember that, hopefully.

"All right, we can see the cows as long as neither of you two run off," Krieger said slowly, the fact that he was babysitting still slowly dawning on him. "Can I trust you two to be good? I assume your sister's still off finding...Pika." Was that her name? That was her name. "So we'll have a quick look at the cows and catch up with them, all right?

Instead of waiting for this all to go to pieces, the Peacekeeper was admittedly having a bit of fun.

Ocelot cheered and started forward immediately, her eyes shining with excitement. Civet seemed more subdued about the thought of seeing the cows, rolling his eyes but trailing after them at a slower pace.

"I've never seen a cow up close before! How close can we get to them? Can we pet one even?" Ocelot asked excitedly.

"You sound like a little kid," Civet muttered.

"I wish we could bring a cow home. Or sheep. Are there sheep? Or goats?" Ocelot asked, obviously unfazed by her brothers shift in mood.

Krieger wasn't sure what was so appealing about barnyard animals. They smelled bad, that was the main thing, and even now he wrinkled his nose at the very earthy 'animal' scent that only got stronger the closer they moved towards larger animals kept out back.

"Wouldn't be surprised if there were goats or sheep. You can't pet the ones at the shelter, but if you ask farmers nicely, they might let you," he said, a note of uncertainty in his voice. After all, he had never particularly wanted to pet a cow and it would like a tad strange for a middle-aged Peacekeeper to suddenly demand for the right to pet livestock.

"Can we go to a farm next then?" Ocelot asked as they drew closer.

Civet snorted. "He's not taking us to a farm. We're here for Juneau. Re-mem-ber?" Civet drew out the words in as annoying a manner as possible.

Ocelot just stuck her tongue out at her brother before looking back at the Peacekeeper. "But then what if Juneau and Pika aren't here yet then can we go to look at farms and pet some of the animals?"

Krieger looked a bit ruffled. On one hand, he was tempted to just say no - he had no business babysitting these kids anyhow. On the other hand, Ocelot was just so endearing... why did kids have to be so cute? This was like telling a kitten or a puppy no when it asked to be pet and secretly, Krieger had a serious weakness for adorable things.

Then again, this might have explained his relationship as well.

"We'll see. Your sisters couldn't have gone too far..."

Civet snorted. "Pika could have. She's like a jackrabbit."

Ocelot gave her brother a derisive glare. "Then Juneau's like...a cheetah."

"But Pika is smaller and can get through crowds faster. Remember when June took us to the garden that one time and we all ran off and it took her forever to find us?"

"Yea that was fun," Ocelot acknowledged. "And that was even with Nicolas and Rylan helping. Hey Mister Peacekeeper, we should go to the farm first if this is where Juneau and Pika are. Then we can come back after and meet them here!" She suggested with a bright hopeful smile.

Civet looked about to argue, then closed his mouth, looking around thoughtfully. "Think of how jealous Pika would be if we got to go to a farm without her..." he said, almost to himself.

Listening to the children recount their stories regarding running off filled Krieger with a horror that was entirely different from that of combat - the idea of actually being responsible for another, albeit smallish, human being. Would he actually be prepared for such a thing?

"If," he began slowly, eyeing the two children sternly, "IF I take you to a farm, will you promise to be good and not run off? Because if you two are just going to cause problems, I don't see any reason why I should."

Of course, they could always lie, but he hoped he was intimidating enough that they would think better of that option.

Both the Powell siblings eyes lit up with delight and they looked up at the Peacekeeper almost simultaneously, giving him smiles of perfect innocence that would have filled teachers who knew them well with dread.

"You'd really take us to the farm?"

"Of course, yea, we'll behave. Just there and back real quick."

"This is gonna be so much fun thank you so much!"

Both Civet and Ocelot were fully aware their sister would never have allowed them to go to a farm after their earlier stunt. Now they'd have stories to bring back home and brag about to their siblings and friends.

Krieger did not know children and thus, did not know better. Of course, he was bad at reading expressions as it was because he had gotten through life mostly just yelling and threatening problems until they fixed themselves. Negotiation and diplomacy were not his fine points, and thus he thought he had actually done a good job up to this point.

"Right then. Follow me, you two."

He knew there was a farm up the road, also knowing that the owner would not, for their own sake, object to a Peacekeeper strolling on the grounds. That was just common sense. And so he started walking, making sure the kids were keeping up with him.

Ocelot and Civet could not contain their excitement. Civet was quieter with his, but Ocelot skipped in place. They were stationed on either side of the Peacekeeper, chattering to each other as though he was not there at all, sometimes walking a little ahead of him, though they had to slow because they didn't know where they were going.

"What kind of animals are there? Gosh I guess it doesn't matter. We'll be able to pet them?"

"I bet they won't believe us..."

"They'll believe us if we both say it. And Jun will back it up. Well, if Mr Peacekeeper here tells her we went here so she knows we're not fibbing," Ocelot looked up at Krieger with a cheerful grin. "You'll tell her we went to a farm so we can tell them all back at home we went to a farm?"

"I mean, she'll probably ask what we were up to anyway, and this is one of the things we were up to, so that would make sense to tell her," Civet added thoughtfully.

"Er, sure, I'll tell her, I guess."

What was so exciting about farms anyhow? They smelled bad, the animals weren't always necessarily friendly, they were filthy... did he mention the stench? He crinkled his nose as they got closer to the barnyard of a nearby farm. Presumably if he let them pet some cows and horses, they would be satisfied and he could then herd them back to their sisters.

Krieger was finally beginning to understand how much effort needed to be put into looking after kids. They were tiring to say the least.

"It sure does smell here-" Civet began, but was cut off when Ocelot scrambled around the Peacekeeper to grab her brothers arm. "Look! Its the farm!" She announced excitedly.

"Well yea I mean duh-" Civet began. But his sister had released him and was racing ahead of them both. "HEY! Wait!" he called out. "Stop! You're not Pika don't act like her!'

And then he raced after his sister, determined not to get left behind.

Well... crud. Though he really should have seen this from a mile away.

"Hey, wait! Come back! What did I say about running off?"

The only thing that was in his advantage was his height and training; he could probably catch the kids... probably. Dashing off after them, he continued to call for them to stop and come back.
