• Next Hunger Games
Our next Hunger Games is a little different than our previous ones. Called "Battle Royale," this Hunger Games will feature one lucky class to be sent to the Hunger Games together. Mr. Dressler's honors history class tried to ignite revolution in Panem. And for their trouble, they will be sent to the arena together. Join us by making a high school junior (16-17 years old) from District 11. See the Battle Royale Subforum for more information. We aim to start in December so now's the time to start developing your character!

Garric Elestren honestly had no idea why he'd accepted this stupid dare. It wasn't like he was ten, wishing to prove himself in front of his peers. He was fifteen already, and he'd already gone through some rather rough moments. Of course, if history books were any indications, gay people didn't suffer as much as they would have done when Panem was still called America.

Kids, however, were cruel and that had forced Garric to learn how to fend for himself and be content with who he was. However, sometimes his desire to prove himself tended to get the better of him and that was why he'd accepted a bet to sleep by himself inside the Haunted House. He knew ghosts couldn't exist, at least his logic told him they didn't.

But still, he'd heard so many stories of this place that he could feel his hairs on edge as he entered, jumping over a fence and carrying only a flashlight and some food and water for the night. His classmates, he knew, were gathered outside, waiting for him to come running out at any moment.

A sudden thump on the ceiling, as if something had fallen upstairs, made him yelp. "Is anyone there?!" he called up the stairwell, shining his flashlight on the stairs. Hopefully it was something alive - right now, even a stray mutt seemed more appealing than a ghost.

Wandering around the sixth district aimlessly, Ferocity cursed herself for having agreed to be stuck in the situation she found herself currently in. Her parents had approached her about a business meeting they were to attend and had requested that she tag along on their trip to clear her head, insisting that a change of scenery would help her cope with the death of all three of her cousins. The deaths hadn't impacted the career much, however, so she simply agreed to come in order to please them as she always did. It was bad enough, after all, that her family name had become somewhat of a joke around their district.

So, as she tried to busy herself in an area that was entirely foreign to her, a mysterious looking house struck her interest. Finding her curiosity triumphing her will to find her parents so she could finally go home, she went to check it out, and after only a few minutes of looking around, she could hear the door on the floor below her open. With a roll of her eyes, she cast her backpack aside, letting it hit the wood floor with an audible sound, announcing her presence to the unknown visitor. Retrieving her pocket knife from the pouch, she began to make her way back downstairs, the weight of her body making the floor boards creak as she moved. Letting out a muffled laugh at the sight of a young boy, she turned to her company, playing with the pocket knife in her hands as she spoke, "Well, look who we have here."

Each creak of the floorboards made the hairs on the back of his hair stand even more and his skin to break out in goosebumps. All he had was a flashlight, his ID card, and his wallet with barely any pocket money. Not much use in a fight, though he'd never been much of a fighter.

Finally, a girl came down the stairs, and in the darkness inside the house, she seemed all the more eerie illuminated by his flashlight and carrying a knife in her hand. Garric's eyes opened to their fullest, the boy gulping and and taking a few steps backwards out of instinct.

She seemed a couple of years older than him, but still a teenager, he was sure. She seemed more amused than startled by his presence, so Garric thought he should try some civil conversation, hopefully she wasn't insane or something and that knife was just to be used for defense -- preferably not against him.

"Ha-- Hi." he smiled nervously at her. "I'm Garric. Are you here on a dare too?"

Examining the boy from a more critical perspective, Ferocity found herself growing more amused by the second. He was frightened by her, or maybe the sight of a knife in the hands of someone outside of a kitchen, and it humored the career who had been raised to be fully equipped to deal with these scenarios. She had been raised to be able to work around and respond to these types of situations. By the looks of it however, he hadn't and in addition to being slightly frightened, her presence made him incredibly nervous. This, of course, helped make it all the more entertaining for her. She'd play around with this one, she supposed, as it was all in good fun after all.

Beginning to approach him slowly, she didn't bother acknowledging that she was even paying attention to his introduction, or even cared what he had to say, as she began circling around him. Dragging the knife along the wall as she walked so that it created a scraping sound as she passed by, the walls giving a low groan as the knife chipped at the peeling wallpaper and paint, she continued this until she was standing back in front of him, knife still in hand. A smirk making way onto her lips and lighting up her features, she held out her free hand to Garric, speaking slowly with an even tone. "I don't accept dares, I give them. I'm Ferocity Price of District One, pleased to make your acquaintance... Garric."

She was actually enjoying this! Enjoying his discomfort and uneasiness! She kept smirking as she prowled around him, scratching the walls with her knife. It was already dark outside, and now he was sure he could hear a raven caw nearby, giving the whole scene an even more surreal touch, reminding him of horror movies.

If this was a horror movie, he was probably going to die. Then again, if there was one thing he could do, was run. Hadn't he outran countless of bullies when he had needed to? This time should be no different - unless she was fast too.

But then she extended her hand and introduced herself. District One! A career! What was she doing here all the way in Six? Sure, he knew district residents were allowed to travel around, but he had rarely done so, and as far as he knew, most people also avoided leaving their district. Maybe because of the cost, or maybe they just didn't want to leave home. Then again, if there was a district that was visited a lot, it would be this. They produced medicine, after all - he was sure doctors from all the districts came here to stock up on whatever wasn't sent to the Capitol.

"Ah. Err... I'm Garric Elestren. District Six. Pleased to meet you?" he managed to say weakly as he shook her hand. He wanted to keep quiet and not let his curiosity get the best of him, but it was harder than he thought. "So, what brings you out to Six? And to the Haunted House in particular?"

Withdrawing her hand from his, Ferocity couldn't help but giggle at the innocence of his question. She didn't bother muffling her laughter either, and she let the light sound echo off the walls of the small room, allowing the room to be filled with something other than the undeniable musty scent that seemed to radiate throughout the entire house. She was speechless, to say the least, as she begun snapping the plastic protector over the blade of her pocket knife before tucking it back into it's rightful place inside of her left boot. Taking a moment to herself to gather her thoughts, she shook her head in disbelief. She couldn't believe that a boy of what looked to be at least fourteen still believed in such nonsense.

Walking around the room again, she paused to take in her surroundings now as she was lost in momentary thought. Examining an old painting, she waved her hand in a dismissing manner as she spoke, "my parents have a business meeting or something and requested that I tag along."With a last glance towards the antique decorations scattered across the space, she turned towards Garric once more, letting the corners of her mouth turn up into a small smile. "You know that ghosts aren't real, right? They're more of a figment of your imagination..." She trailed off, before continuing, "and this house isn't haunted, I promise. It's just a shabby, old house. I was here for awhile before you even showed up, alone, so I can promise you that there's nothing to worry about."

She was giggling now, a very girlish giggle that made her not so scary anymore. Just a normal teenage girl, never mind the knife and the fact that she was from District One, which probably made her a career. Garric found himself unable to contain a smile - her giggles were contagious, after all.

His smile only grew wider, and his posture became more relaxed as she put the knife away. Thankfully, now it wasn't such an imminent thread. So now, all they could do was talk. Or explore, but that didn't seem to be a priority to Ferocity. Garric dimmed the light of his flashlight to save batteries - he'd brought a couple extra batteries just in case, but it was better to be safe than sorry.

He was about to remove his backpack and offer the girl some water when she began explaining her reason for being there. But as she began telling him that the house wasn't haunted, he could feel his face grow red as he blushed, ashamed. "I know it isn't haunted and that ghosts aren't real, I'm not stupid! That's just it's name - the Haunted House. Everybody in the district knows it by that name." He was aware that his voice was sounding perhaps more shrill than he intended to.

"Did you find anything interesting up there? Well, there's probably nothing left. Everybody's probably gone through the dare of sleeping here alone, so if there was anything worth taking it's long gone now."
