• Next Hunger Games
Our next Hunger Games is a little different than our previous ones. Called "Battle Royale," this Hunger Games will feature one lucky class to be sent to the Hunger Games together. Mr. Dressler's honors history class tried to ignite revolution in Panem. And for their trouble, they will be sent to the arena together. Join us by making a high school junior (16-17 years old) from District 11. See the Battle Royale Subforum for more information. We aim to start in December so now's the time to start developing your character!

Zura wasn't in one of her best moods. Not only had she been sore from her intense training before the flood, but she was now shivering cold, and wet. She sat outside pondering on how she would do in the games. She knew the last games had already ended, but the capitol had plenty of things up their sleeves. Light rain hit her already wet hair. It was down, hitting her shoulders. She had on her leather jacket which was her fathers. Her father was in the restroom, probably crying because he wasn't able to work. Zura hated the fact her father started to love work more than herself. As she sat outside, she told her little brother, Raymie, to go into the room they were sleeping in. She didn't care where her 18 year old brother, Hecter was. She didn't really think he would care where she was either.

Zura dug out of her thoughts, and looked ahead of her. She could see the rain, hitting the ground. There were already puddles everywhere, and it didn't stop raining. She stood up, and moved a little bit away from the steps that she was just sitting on. She sat down on this bench, looking around once more, trying to see if anyone was near. She could use some company. Her mind was still wondering off with thoughts, and her knife was in its holder on her belt. if anyone tried to attack, she was ready.

Damn this place. They didn't even have proper equipment for training, and weapons weren't really allowed here, either. It wasn't even like she was going to use them on anyone, either; she just wanted to maintain good physical shape and keep herself prepared for the Hunger Games. Sure, it was almost a year away, but one couldn't let oneself fall to pieces just because of some rain.

This was why she was jogging around the open area. Her hair was wet and her clothing was soaked through. Droplets of water clung to her skin, making it impossible to tell if she was sweating or not. She felt the comfortable burn in her muscles telling her that she was on the right track, though she knew she better wind down the cardio and start working on push-ups. As she slowed down, she noticed a familiar figure not too far away sitting on a bench. Ugh, it was Zura, some girl from school. She happened to be in Lepto's path, as she walked off her run.

"Hi, Zura," Lepto greeted her classmate. "Not bothering to train, huh?"

Zura's face was in her hands, when she had heard a voice. It was Lepto, a girl she had known from her district. She looked like she was running, but Zura didn't really care. They both were practicing for the games back in their district, but the flood just messed up Zura's schedule. She looked up, and tried to produce a smile. "Hey Lepto, and No. No Training for me. This stupid rain has messed me up...." She shrugged, and sat up straight, looking at Lepto. The girl was built pretty good, and she seemed like the type to be a career. Zura knew she wanted to be one, not only for the protection, but she was going to kill off the people in her group if she had the chance, just to show the capitol that she was ready for anything. This thought did bring a smile to her face, but it quickly went away, as the rain picked up. She got a little upset, she wanted it to just stop raining. Her little brother had always loved the rain, but he was still inside. She felt more muscles tense up as she moved over a little bit, making room for Lepto if she wanted to sit down. She felt pain, not much, but just enough that she felt a small sharp feeling.

Lepto shifted her weight from one leg to the other as she looked down at her classmate. Arms crossed over her chest, she said,

"Not going to volunteer then, huh?" she asked. One had to be ready for anything in the arena. To not train in all conditions would only put one at a disadvantage when one finally got out there in the Games. It would be ridiculous to not run in the rain and then get to a stormy arena. But even if the arena had no rain at all--say, for example, the fire arena that was in the 97th Games--training in the rain at least prepared one with unusual conditions.

Zura thought for a minute. She had some of the same thoughts as Lepto was having, about needing to train in all conditions. She didn't know exactly what she wanted to do, but she did know she was going to volunteer if her name wasn't pulled. "Lepto, I am going to volunteer. But right now, I am just taking the time to get used to living with people from the lower districts. And My brother's being in danger around people they don't know." She had a wild way of thinking of things. She knew that her older brother could take care of himself, but her younger one was more curious.

((Sorry for the crappy post))

Get used to living with people from lower districts? And what next, they'd all sit around, hold hands, and sing kumbaya? Lepto raised an eyebrow at the girl's comment. If this girl went to the arena, and Lepto didn't, there'd be hell to pay because someone worthy needed to go to the Games, not some dumb little punk who felt the need to hang out with the underlings.

"Right, well, have fun dying," she said sweetly.

Zura was confused. "What are you talking about Lepto? I don't want to live with those scums. What if the flooding gets worse? And we have to live here? I was just saying it would suck to have to adapt to living with them." She frowned, she didn't want to live with them. They all thought her, and her district were stupid and stuck up, yet they were all like that, and Zura and her district were just favored because they were the best. Zura smiled at this thought, and looked up towards Lepto.

"Yet you're trying. They should have to adapt to living with us," Lepto said. She crossed her arms over her chest and shifted her weight back and forth again. After running, it was never a good idea to sit down, and she shouldn't even be standing still. To get the most out of her exercise and to maintain the best health, she needed to continue walking. "Don't adjust your lifestyle around them."

Zura thought something, Lepto was right. She shouldn't be adapting to live with them. They had the bad jobs, the bad living conditions. They should have to live to adapt with them. They had everything they needed. Zura nodded in agreement. "But Lepto, I want you to know that this moment, that we are having right now. This showed me how strong you are. And if you volunteer before me, I might back down." She smiled. Her brother's probably wouldn't like this. Zura has been training all her life for this. But Zura thought that Lepto should go, she could win it for her district. She could make the district proud. This made Zura want to stand down even more.

The urge to vomit at Zura's cheesy speech was replaced with great pride. Zura was right. Lepto was the best, and she was District Two's guarantee for a success in the Games. Someone like Zura would never make it, but Lepto was a natural and she'd own all the other Tributes.

Only one problem with Zura's words: the other District Two girl said she might back down if Lepto volunteered. Might. If Zura went to the arena, District Two would be disgraced again. They needed someone like Lepto to lead them to victory. She had been training hard her entire life with a fitness routine that required dedication seven days a week. Cardio, strength training, weaponry . . . Lepto knew it all. She didn't doubt that Zura could make it out of the Bloodbath, but she didn't have what it took to win.

"I can win," she said. "District Two needs a victor. This past year was a complete disgrace. I mean, can you believe that we sent a twelve year old into the arena?"

She laughed a bit. But knew that Lepto was giving her a low blow, saying that she wouldn't mak eit in the games. But Zura knew if she was picked, She wuold show Lepto she was wrong. Zura then smiled, "Yeah! And the Twelve yar old wasn't even that good." She didn't feel like discussing her feelings, because she was supposed to be a career, always being cautious. That was how Zura lived.

"No, she wasn't," Lepto replied. She rocked back and forth side to side as she shifted her weight. Her body began to cool down, especially in this weather, and she wished she hadn't left her jacket inside. She ought to be careful or else she'd take ill; as soon as she was finished with her cool-down, she would run inside and take a shower.

"She only survived as long as she did because of the alliance, and it wasn't like she even added anything too it. The Careers were too soft and should have killed her at the Bloodbath if she couldn't prove she was good for anything. I mean, it wasn't like she could lift a fair amount of weapons and supplies, either."

"Last games, the Careers shouldn't have even in the games. They were sorry excuses for Careers. and that little girl probably needed to die. You shouldn't have to be in a group to survive." She still had the feeling that Lepto wasn't to much thrilled with the idea of Zura wanting to go to the games. Zura didn't care. She wanted to do this for her brothers, to give them a better life. Even though they were in a higher up district, her brothers still got treated like scum, because they were trouble makers.

Zura looked at Lepto, she looked as if she was getting cold. Zura ignored it. She didn't really care if the girl in front of her felt bad. She might be a competition in the future.

"So you plan on going rogue and stabbing the other Careers in the back early in the Games?" Lepto narrowed her eyes. She didn't hide the disdain in her voice. Yeah, just like that Shasperi kid who ditched the other Careers. The laughingstock of the Careers last year. If District Two had another one of those, they might as well consider themselves a non-Career district.

At last, Lepto was tired of talking to this girl who clearly didn't know what she was doing. If by some strange chance Zura ended up at the Games, she'd be dead by the second day. Brushing a strand of hair out of her face, Lepto gave a glance at Zura before continuing,

"I have things to do. Good luck with your training." Which you aren't even doing.
