• Next Hunger Games
Our next Hunger Games is a little different than our previous ones. Called "Battle Royale," this Hunger Games will feature one lucky class to be sent to the Hunger Games together. Mr. Dressler's honors history class tried to ignite revolution in Panem. And for their trouble, they will be sent to the arena together. Join us by making a high school junior (16-17 years old) from District 11. See the Battle Royale Subforum for more information. We aim to start in December so now's the time to start developing your character!

But Felicity continued to follow Uaithne, waiting for him to finally cave. Though she didn't give up, she did get bored quickly. Felicity gnawed at her lip. She couldn't leave Uaithne until he agreed to let her show proof that she was right and he was wrong. But, at the same time, Felicity didn't want to die of boredom, either.

She looked up at Uaithne, tugging her brown hair. Who said she had to leave to have some fun?

Felicity stopped walking and crouched down. She let out a blood-curdling screech, and then flung herself at the victor.

She'd managed to lose Felicity in only a handful of rooms and just a patch of outdoor space. How did that happen? Why was Felicity allergic to listening to her words of wisdom? No matter how crabbily and bossily said, they were still wise words. Don't wander. Don't sneak up on the Peacekeepers; they have guns. Don't bother people. Left (foolishly) unsaid: Don't bother the Callahan brothers.

These closed quarters made her nervous. The "O'Shae"s were in the very same building as the children they up and left, and she, Felicity, and Them knew it, and Mom and Dad knew it, but no one was saying anything or letting each other know what they knew. What a confusing disaster.

Aster had covered almost all of the indoor space in the Evacuation Centre, and was beginning to feel nice and panicked. Damn this stealthy sister of hers! She was about to double back and check the sleeping room one more time when she heard a very familiar scream and rushed out the doors to the porch.

"What are you doing??" she screeched in horror. Not only was she ambushing the reigning Victor - hello, jumpy guy who had killed people???? - but it was Uaithne.

Just when Uaithne thought he shook the kid off of him for good, he heard an inhuman wail and then felt impact. Not to his surprise, it was the girl, and her attempt to tackle him had failed. He heard shouting in the background, but figured it was someone freaking out over attacking children.

Uaithne grabbed the girl by her arms and pried her off him. He held her at a distance and looked in her eyes.

"I don't want to know," he said.

Felicity stared at Uaithne, then at Aster. "Aster!" she cried, immediately feeling relief. "Tell him that we're his adopted sisters!" Felicity smirked at Uaithne triumphantly and confidently.

Aster was about as maternal as a rabid raccoon, but she suddenly wanted to beat the stuffing out of the younger Callahan brother. Funny, like brother, like brother. "Get OFF her!" she hollered, charging forward to reclaim her sister. Her mother-bear routine hit a sudden speed bump, reeling as she finally understood what was going on.

She stared at Felicity in horror. This was her master plan? To do her creepy ambush thing and then shout from the rooftops who the O'Shea's really were?

"What did I say?" she demanded of her little sister, grabbing her firmly - probably too firmly - by the shoulders. "Not right now!" She glanced up at Uaithne.

"Sorry," she apologized a bit lamely. "But she is telling the truth. This time."

Uaithne stared at the new addition and couldn't think of anything to say. His mouth opened, then closed. Now there were two of them, and Uaithne could barely stand one. But two--they were distracted with each other. Saying nothing, Uaithne turned and walked away.

Felicity glared at Aster. "I've always told the truth - holy shiz! He's gettin' away!" She tried to wiggle free of her sister’s grasp, but Felicity was too small and the grip too tight. "LEGGO, ASTER!" Felicity hissed. “I’ll kick you if you don’t!”

Aster was legitimately worried for her sister's safety, no lie. First, she was in this little center, cramped quarters, trying to sneak that stupid bloody ax past the Peacekeepers. Now she was ambushing Victors and gleefully announcing painful family revelations. Didn't she get it? Didn't she get what it meant? Maybe she was all excited about having two new "brothers", who were Victors, but that wasn't where the Callahan boys were coming from. Who knew where they were coming from, exactly.

"Don't say shiz, you don't sound ladylike," she bossed with a scowl. She let go, but with only one hand; she still had a death grip on her little sister's left elbow. "Now shut UP, don't say a peep, hear me?" she ordered before marching after Uaithne.

"Hey! Hold up! I don't know what she told you, but I'd like to talk to you, alright? Please?"

Don't think about it keep moving don't think about it keep moving don't think about it keep moving

Uaithne kept his head down and continued to move away from them, putting as much space as possible between them and their lies. Memories. Lies. What were they? Lilly was dead, and he didn't have a sister, he knew that. He remembered her dying in his arms, could feel her breath vanishing from her body. But here was a girl claiming to be his sister. Adopted, but his sister. It was impossible. His parents abandoned them, but they didn't . . . adopt more kids. A ridiculous notion. A lie. A fallacy. A way to hurt Uaithne for winning.

A truth?

The grass was swampy and marshy, and Uaithne wasn't sure what he was going to do when he reached the fence, but he'd cross that bridge when he came to it. It was the easiest way to approach life, and perhaps that's what Ro got that Uaithne didn't: it never helped to worry about barriers in the road until one was right there, or one would never be able to live. That's how Ro was always so in control of himself. Uaithne bit the inside of his cheek until he tasted blood, and he kept his teeth clamped down on the raw flesh. Don't think about Lilly.

Felicity glared at Aster. Felicity would say whatever she wanted to say!

After trying to be all polite and stuffy and girly, Aster completely failed in stopping Uaithne. "Talking like that doesn't work! You actually have to get his attention!" Felicity growled at her older sister, ignoring her previous command. She began to wrench her shoulder free of Aster's grasp, wincing at how much it was beginning to hurt.

Felicity looked at the leaving Uaithne with desperate eyes. Aster was here, so why wasn't this conversation coming from worse to great!? "LILLY CALLAHAN WASN'T YOUR ONLY SISTER, UAITHNE!" she cried. "PLEASE - JUST LISTEN TO US!"

"Oh right, I should scare the bejesus out of people to get them to listen to me, right, super genius?" Aster shot back sarcastically. It wasn't that she was trying the meek and polite way herself; she wouldn't know that method if it bit her on the nose. But there was a difference between trying to get what you want and trying to traumatize someone. Someone who had killed people.

Fine. She let Felicity's elbow go, before breaking into a brisk jog, also determined not to let Uaithne go, although she was determined not to be even half as crazy as her sister once she caught up to him. "Stop!" she said to Felicity, beyond exasperated. Stop talking, stop talking, stop bringing up his dead sister.

She caught up and got straight in Uainthe's way. "C'mon. Just let ME, not this little psycho, tell you what the hell's going on. I won't say I'm your sister, alright?" They weren't, not biologically, and maybe not by adoption, either. It was like a clean break, and Ronan and Uaithne weren't the O'Shae's children anymore, and now the three Turmaces were. How could that be a family?

Perhaps the only thing which kept Uaithne from hitting the little girl was the fact that the older one stepped in front of him before he could turn around and strike the pest. Lilly was his only sister. There were no others. He had a sister and a brother, but now only his brother and he remained of the three. Lilly died. No more girls. The end.

And yet, these girls wanted to insist there were more.

"Fine," he snapped. "Tell me."

But I won't listen.

Felicity glared at Aster. "But we are his sisters! At least, we're adopted..." she said with a stubborn stomp of her foot. But, Felicity didn't stop Aster. Despite of everything, Felicity still had hope that her older sister would make things right.

Aster bugged out her eyes at Felicity in pure frustration - she had to be pissed, to make an ugly face on purpose - and emphatically held her index finger in front of her lips in the international sign for SHOOSH. Shut up, already! If you told the guy you were his sister and he flipped out and walked away from you, try another tact! If people would just LISTEN to Aster, the world would be a much better place for it.

She planted her hands on her hips, legs shoulder width apart, looking the picture of stubbornness. And also like she might be about to tackle somebody, but that was unintentional.

"Listen, it's real clear what happened, and it sucks," she began. "Cleve and Maria O'Shea adopted us the year Ronan was in the Games, when our parents...they died," she hesitated over the painful memory. "Just like we have a right to know our 'parents' are pretty lousy human beings, you have a right to know where they are!"

Uaithne stared at her blankly.

"I don't care where they are."

He wanted to find Ronan. Even if his older brother couldn't prove it as a fallacy, he at least needed to confide in him. For a split second, he wanted to tell Lilly, too, just so they could have a good laugh, and then he remembered that Lilly was dead, and the fact that his parents had replaced his dead sister with more sisters made it that much more painful.

His parents didn't just find the situation unbearable--they found their own biological children unbearable. Until now, Uaithne assumed that they couldn't stand having a child reaped, but now he understood: his mom and dad did not like him. Ronan, Uaithne and Lilly Callahan were despicable creatures. Or maybe it had only been Ronan up there on the television screen killing other people. Then they would be just as disappointed in Uaithne, their second victor. And Lilly--they didn't have to worry about Lilly anymore. That should make them happy, at least, he thought bitterly.

His brain swirled as the thought of his parents hatred for him pushed its way into the front of his mind. Bile singed the back of his throat, and he leaned over and puked onto the grass near his boots.
