• Next Hunger Games
Our next Hunger Games is a little different than our previous ones. Called "Battle Royale," this Hunger Games will feature one lucky class to be sent to the Hunger Games together. Mr. Dressler's honors history class tried to ignite revolution in Panem. And for their trouble, they will be sent to the arena together. Join us by making a high school junior (16-17 years old) from District 11. See the Battle Royale Subforum for more information. We aim to start in December so now's the time to start developing your character!

After four years, we have decided to close down Sixth Station. The site has meant so much to many of us who spent countless hours into our game. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our game.

The 101-Fall Hunger Games are wrapping up. You have 24-48 hours to enter the final posts. Members can still post in the "History of Sixth Station" and the "Connection" forums.

Nicolas hiked the backpack further up his shoulder and glanced through the forest that surrounded him. With no trails or other signs of humanity, Nicolas had to rely on his own senses. That was okay; he trusted himself more than he did most people, so he wasn’t going to complain. However, it was late afternoon and he had yet to find the wildflower Dhole so madly desired. Frost covered the ground where the thick trees above did let sun penetrate the forest. He could see his breath as he walked, and the sound of his shoes crunching against the frozen twigs on the forest floor reverberated in his ears. He ought to have worn something warmer than his black windbreaker, even if he did wear a sweatshirt underneath.

The objective was simple: Find the flower and get back home. The execution was not. He knew very little of forests in general, and much of this was entirely new to him. Sure, he’d been out of the districts on a couple of occasions and he watched the odd programme here or there that took place in nature, but that didn’t make him an expert by any means. As long as he stayed moving, he’d be fine, and if he didn’t get out of the forest before darkness fell, he’d have to find a place to stay for the night so he wouldn’t get lost or freeze.

The things he did for his siblings!

Swinging in a tree branch, Ula looked around at where she was. She had decided to go out into the forest just on the edge of the districts that day because she felt like climbing real trees. She had gone out a few times to the forest, mainly just to the edge where the trees met the districts. She never had gone out far, not wanting to risk anything even though she could fight and climb trees.

She sat in a tree, only a few feet off the ground because of the trees being wet from the cold winter weather. She had always been careful about climbing trees in the winter, never going too high into the trees and being careful to choose which trees she swung to and from in fears of a rotten tree.

But today, unlike the other times Ula had gone into the forest, she traveled further in then usual and in a direction she normally wouldn't. She was in search of new trees and new areas to explore, a simple child mind at work. But when she heard the breaking of twigs and ice on the forest floor beneath her. She pulled herself up so she could stand up on the tree branch she was sitting on. She held onto the truck of the tree and looked below her at the ground to see a person, a guy from what she could tell, walking along. She smiled to herself, her friendly little attitude kicking into gear. "HIIIII!" She screamed down to the person walking under her trees.

Nicolas kept his footsteps light, but when he heard someone scream at him, he jumped. Several twigs cracked under his shoes, giving away his location—if it wasn’t blown already. His eyes turned up to the source of the sound and found a little kid hanging out in the lower branches of a tree. Emphasis on little kid. She looked to be around the age of the sextuplets. Little kids shouldn’t be wandering in these woods and especially not alone. If anyone found her, she’d probably be punished, and her parents, too. He hoped for both his and the girl’s sakes that no one would find them out here. Nicolas knew how dangerous it was, but little kids could be stupid in their naivety. His own siblings had done a lot of dumb stuff just because their ten-year-old brains thought it would be totally awesome.

“You’re going to fall,” he said after a long pause. Ice coated the surfaces of many trees, and if the branches were as slick as the trunks, she wouldn’t last long up there. He ought not to patronize her if she’d managed to slip out of the districts and make it out here alone—but who said that she actually was alone? She could have people in the woods—maybe Peacekeepers, even—and at any moment, said people could return to collect their missing child.

Ula narrowed her eyes as the guy below her told her that she was going to fall. She didn't think she would fall, she had been careful about climbing up to where she was, she could probably jump to another tree if she wanted, but she knew she probably wasn't going to fall. She was a skilled climber after all, and she prided herself in that. "No I'm not." She answered back.

She swung her legs from the tree branch she was sitting on and smiled down. "Watcha doing in the forest? It's illegal you know. But I don't think there are any peacekeepers around. I haven't seen any yet, but you never know, right?" She said being a little over talkative, but she usually was like that, wanting to know everything and anything. She wanted to learn anything she could, even little useless things because she knew anything would help her in the Arena once she went. Anything could turn the tables for her.

Nicolas watched the little girl. She warned him about Peacekeepers? Oughtn’t she be keeping an eye out for them for herself? Again, Nicolas wondered if this were a trap set out to catch any wandering passers-by who might be easily swayed by some little kid. He should leave now before the Peacekeepers returned.

And if it wasn’t?

Then he’d leave a little girl by herself in the woods.

Nicolas studied her for several long seconds without saying a word as he tried to sum her up. She was young, but if she was good enough to get here by herself, he had to give her credit for that. He didn’t see any survival gear on her, though; had she accidentally gotten out and now was too naive to realize that she couldn’t survive out here without anything to protect her from the cold or the wild animals? Nicolas himself wasn’t prepared to be out here for more than two days, and he had taken very limited things with him. He had intended to return tonight but brought extra food and water in case it was longer. Anything more and he might as well turn himself into the Capitol as a rebel.

Ula stared down at the older boy for a while, she thought of it as a staring contest because of him looking up at her. She noticed the travel things he had with him. She had nothing with her because she was using this time out in the forest as a training exercise for herself, and she also knew she'd be home before it got too late.

She smiled and quickly climbed down the tree, almost like a squirrel (other then the fact that she can't climb down like they could), and swing her arms happily once she hit the hard pact, icy earth.

She looked up at him now. Still wondering what he was doing out in the forest. The little girl knew he couldn't possibly be training, he didn't look like a career to her. She brought together her facts and knew that he was out here for another reason. She briefly brushed the possibility of him being a peacekeeper, thought Ula couldn't see him as being once.

"So... what are you doing out here?" She asked with curiosity in her voice and a smile on her face.
