• Next Hunger Games
Our next Hunger Games is a little different than our previous ones. Called "Battle Royale," this Hunger Games will feature one lucky class to be sent to the Hunger Games together. Mr. Dressler's honors history class tried to ignite revolution in Panem. And for their trouble, they will be sent to the arena together. Join us by making a high school junior (16-17 years old) from District 11. See the Battle Royale Subforum for more information. We aim to start in December so now's the time to start developing your character!

This was the most awkward thing she'd ever done. It was even more awkward than that sham of a wedding. She hadn't really talked to Faron much after they got married. He was a friend, but this whole thing was freaking her out a little. Especially now that they were back in the Capitol and people couldn't shut up about it. She thought maybe the people would have better things to talk about like the Hunger Games or something. That was more exciting to her than a wedding.

And speaking of the games, the bloodbath had only recently ended. Her tribute was still alive and out there somewhere and Delta was glad they had a television in this restaurant so she could catch glimpses of what was going on. The reason she was at a restaurant was because her escort had decided to arrange a double date. At least this helped keep up public appearances of her being happily married. Married people went on dates. They had just sat down at the table that was reserved for them and Delta had no clue what to say.

Faron liked Delta, but not in a way that warranted marriage. He had married her because if he didn’t, someone else would, and that someone else was not a fine, upstanding character. Faron and Delta had met a man who had strongly implied disturbing intentions, and after that, Faron had asked Delta to marry him lest the creepy man get to her first. The situation sucked for many reasons. Faron never thought much about marriage—he was only 18—but he always figured that if he married, it would be to someone he loved. Delta was nice—albeit a little crazy sometimes—but they were no more than friends.

Despite this, Faron didn’t want to pity himself, or think about what happened negative terms. He had made a decision, and he took responsibility for it. Besides, he liked Delta, which seemed to be a rarity in terms of Victors and Champions. If they weren’t at each other’s throats, they were likely getting wasted together.

The restaurant Delta’s escort had chosen was extravagant, as most things were in the Capitol. He kind of wished they could have chosen something more casual since it might be easier to converse, but he’d make do. He wore a nice jacket and a tie, and was satisfied that his stylist hadn’t wrangled him into something completely ridiculous like most of the Capitolites wore. He had even allowed the stylist to comb back his hair, though he opted to wear his glasses rather than the contacts she insisted on fitting him for.

Now all they had to do was wait for the other couple to arrive.

“Capitolites have stomachs of steel,” Faron commented as he looked up at one of the televisions playing Bloodbath recaps. From somewhere on the other side of the restaurant, a group of people cheered loudly. Faron didn’t know what television they were looking at, but he didn’t entirely care. At the time the Bloodbath ended, his tributes were still alive, and that was all needed right now.

Apparently, escorts had something against their victors and decided that they needed to socialize out in the Capitol. Or, at least that was what Lizzie decided what happened. Her escort said something about a date out with Uaithne and Delta and Faron. Which, she didn't mind all too much, but it definitely screamed problem in her mind. Lizzie could barely hold a conversation with Uaithne and now she was expected to have one with him and two others she barely knew.

But of course, she couldn't refuse so she let the escorts plan the thing and apparently Delta's had chosen a nice restaurant for them. Lizzie couldn't refuse food, especially not food from the Capitol. There weren't many other reasons for her to come to the Capitol other than for the mentoring and the food.

Her stylist had forced her into this bright, flower fields printed dress. Not something she would have picked for herself, but it was nice and not as bright and flashy as the Capitolites usually were.

The Bloodbath was nearing its end and both her tributes were surprisingly alive. Lizzie couldn't say how well they were going to do, considering that one had gotten into a pretty bad fight and the other one wasn't interesting enough to get a lot of airtime at the moment. "You get use to it," Lizzie pointed out, and she had because she liked to eat in the Capitol.

Uaithne hoped that the dinner date would be cancelled before it could happen, but he wasn’t so lucky. Maybe Ronan would save him before he had to leave. But it hadn’t happened. Instead, he found himself arriving to the designated restaurant with his wife, and sitting down at a table with two other strangers. They were Champions from more recent Hunger Games and had been winners much shorter time—or maybe it just seemed that way since there had been so many Hunger Games in the past few years.

Truth be told, Uaithne was jealous of the Champions. Yeah, it sucked going into the arena with 50 other tributes, but if multiple winners had been allowed during the 97th Hunger Games. . . .

Lilly would still be dead. She died on Day Two, he told himself bitterly. His eyes strayed to the televisions which displayed the Bloodbath for everyone to see. He didn’t want to get used to it. He had already lost so much of his humanity, did he need to lose it all? Uaithne, dissatisfied with his current predicament and not really interested in talking, allowed the others to converse.

Whatever. At least there were no reporters here. They probably would have a field day with this. She was sure her escort would leak a story to some gossip magazine, if only to make them look good. That escort was crafty. Delta didn't like it. Although it was mostly because she didn't like when people were more clever than her. Present company was excluded though, because she liked Faron and he was about as equally clever as she was.

Wearing a floor length silver gown, Delta started silently sipping the non alcoholic champagne they were brought. It was a little embarrassing that the only person here old enough to drink was the Victor from District 4. The rest of them were all under age. While Faron and Lizzie went on about Capitolites, Delta glanced over at the other member of their party. Uaithne had been her mentor, since Ronan had been too grumpy to come out of his room, and she still felt a little bad about that temper tantrum she threw.

"So have any of you guys been here before? I heard they have a dessert section that has 100 different flavors of ice cream. That should be interesting, yeah? I wonder how many we can try before we get sick." Anything to break the awkwardness of this all.
