Join us by making a high school junior (16-17 years old) from District 11. See the Battle Royale Subforum for more information. We aim to start in December so now's the time to start developing your character!

Mrs Graham's house. There were lots of myths about that woman. The only sure thing was that her son was reaped in the 76th Hunger Games and once she watched him die she disappeared. Nobody knows where she is. Some asume that she commited suicide, others think that Capitol took her and turned her into an avox. Mauricia concidered all of these stories stupid. Ever since she was young she thought that the woman died in her house. It was not an especially new house, after all.

In the edge of the District, Graham's household was a favourite spot to little animals like snakes or cats. Little kids were afraid of even passing by the house and older ones pretended they are strong by walking several feet in the garden... and then running away once they heard a cat.

Mauricia instantly accepted to go in the house when those stupid kids challenged her. How scary would an abandoned house be? She certainly doubted that Mrs Graham spent her little money to make her house look scary. And she certainly doubted that she kidnapped children to torture them. Everyone knew that the woman loved children.

After she and Midna had climbed the gate, Mauricia took out two flashlights from the pocket of her jacket and handed the one to her half sister. Okay, she was not afraid of going in there but the idea of going alone was not pleasant.

" Ready to find the oh-so-scary ghost of Mrs Graham?" she asked Midna, not bothering to hear her reply as she opened the front door with a kick and entered in the house cautiously, making sure that nothing old and unstable would fall on her head.

This was stupid. Midna didn’t want anything to do with haunted houses, and she wanted even less to do with them when her half sister was around. But she also didn’t want to be shown up, so she grabbed her hatchet and headed out.

Unfortunately this journey was harder than one thought; they had to travel back to the city districts and hide until nightfall and then sneak around the occasional Peacekeeper. A lot more effort than she wanted, but she wasn’t going to make it look like she was a wimp. And besides, this sure beat going back home and catering for one of Dick’s parties.

The sheathed hatchet bumped her leg as she walked, and she managed to scale the fence with ease. All the manual labor in the fields gave her some skills at least.

“Mrs. Graham has a pretty nice house for District Nine,” Midna replied. She didn’t reach for the hatchet just in case peacekeepers were around. Didn’t need to be arrested for violence or anything crazy like that.

The house was indeed quite pretty for District Nine. It was rather large, with beautiful windows and doors. It probably looked good when it didn't look too much like a ruin.

" Yeah." she commented as she walked futher in the house, observing the old furnitures. They also looked pretty luxurious for District Nine. This Graham lady was apparently rich, because Mauricia couldn't picture anyone from Nine live in a house with more than three rooms. Okay, maybe four, but five was pretty extreme.

She walked towards one large, wooden wardrobe and opened it slowly, for a moment hoping that there was no corpse inside. There were only old clothes, covered by dust and dirt, but Mauricia still pulled out something which looked like a dress. A couple of years ago it had a bright green colour, but right now, it smelled like rats and it was covered by dust. Disgusted, Mauricia threw the dress on the ground and then looked insde the wardrobe, with the hope that there was something interesting or expensive in it. Like a hidden treasure.

" Oh look" Mauricia said as she took out another dress, which could suit both her and Midna perfectly. " I thought that Mrs Graham only had a son." She murmured and then her brows frowned. " And I doubt that would keep her old clothes for so many years."

Midna eyed the dress Mauricia pulled out. She crossed her arms over her chest.

“Maybe her son liked to dress in drag on the weekends,” she pointed out. He’d have to be a small guy because Midna was pretty sure she could fit in the dress, and she wasn’t particularly tall. She eyed Mauricia. Although the two of them were the same height, Mauricia was a good ten pounds smaller. One day, Midna would find a way to fatten Mauricia up so that she was a fat heifer and then Midna would never have to be worried about being the bigger of the two. “You should try it on.”

" Or maybe she had a daughter nobody knew about." Mauricia said, amused by her own words. Why would some lady hide a girl in her house? Even though she was sure it was her imagination, Mauricia was curious to find more about these mysterious dresses. " And I am not wearing this shit." she murmured as she put the dress back in the wardrobe.

" Come on, let's go upstairs."

Fine. Midna bet Mauricia would have tried it on if Midna hadn’t been the one to suggest it. Mauricia was hardheaded and stubborn.

“Why? We’ve barely explored the downstairs,” Midna said as she eyed the dress. Dick had plenty of money to buy them fancy dresses, but the girls never saw any of it. The man liked to keep the money to himself and his buddies and spend it only on food and alcohol and other things of entertainment. But even as Midna’s eyes lingered on the dusty fabric of the dress, she knew that not even she would stoop that low to wear it.

The upstairs always had more interesting things for one to explore. Midna, though, was right, so Mauricia simply shrugged. " Fine, you're right." she murmured. Walking carefully on the dirty floor, she opened one large, wooden door, which lead to the living room. Unlike in horror movies, the sofas were not covered by white sheets. There was one tv and a bookshelf, full of dusty books. And, on one coffee table, there was a small aquarium, full of almost green water and two dead goldfish.

" Ew." Mauricia commented as she walked closer to the aquarium. " I wouldn't want to be in their place."

“Eww,” Midna agreed. She looked at the disgusting aquarium. The woman hadn’t left that long ago if the fish’s bodies were still in there. Unless someone just stuck dead fish into an aquarium for shits and giggles.

Midna walked around the room. Layers of dust hid tacky decorations, and damned good because some of these knickknacks were awful. Midna’s eyes traveled to a needlepoint picture of a cat. Sickeningly sweet beneath the dust. It was so cliché.

“So what’s so awesome about this place again?” Midna asked. “Aren’t we supposed to see ghosts?”

" Yes, we are." Mauricia said calmly. She always doubted the existance of ghosts. Even if there was life after death, why would the said ghost return to its previous place of living? Especially the ghosts of tributes. There were rumours that they haunted their arenas, but Mauricia didn't believe they were true. How stupid would a kid be to return in the place he got killed?

" I doubt there are ghosts as well but, everyone is afraid of the house, so I guess they have a reason to do so." she assumed as she walked away from the aquarium, towards a large, old television.

Midna rolled her eyes.

“It’s this paisley pillow on the yellow couch,” she said as she motioned to the offending piece of furniture. “This scares me, too.”

Mauricia raised an eyebrow and turned to face Midna. " Was this supposed to be funny?" she commented, rather rudly and then turned towards the old dusty television again.

Ghosts didn't exist, but this didn't mean they couldn't explore the house. It was deffinetly better than cooking for Dick's next party. " Hey, maybe we will find something valuable... Like money or some old necklace."

Midna sneered at her behind her back. Damned idiot.

“Yeah, sure. Then you’ll end up haunted by the ghost of an old woman,” she snickered. Maybe Midna would take some of that jewelry and hide it in Dick’s room. Though knowing her luck, Dick would be thrilled to have an old lady ghost visit him. She ran her fingers across a dusty coffee table, leaving long trails on its surface.

" I guess your chicken will guard me." Mauricia commented rolling her eyes and picking up a dusty thing which looked like a box. " Hey, maybe the haunted jewerly is here."
