• Next Hunger Games
Our next Hunger Games is a little different than our previous ones. Called "Battle Royale," this Hunger Games will feature one lucky class to be sent to the Hunger Games together. Mr. Dressler's honors history class tried to ignite revolution in Panem. And for their trouble, they will be sent to the arena together. Join us by making a high school junior (16-17 years old) from District 11. See the Battle Royale Subforum for more information. We aim to start in December so now's the time to start developing your character!

The 101-Fall Hunger Games are wrapping up. You have 24-48 hours to enter the final posts. Members can still post in the "History of Sixth Station" and the "Connection" forums.

A sweet breeze warms the town square as the population assembles for 101 Spring reaping. The weather is just warm enough that one can wear short sleeves, though cool enough that those in the shade might wish for a light sweater. Thinking about the weather provides a brief distraction from the large screened televisions that show around the square and surrounding overflow areas, all images currently trained to the dais in the centre of the square. Banners stream between buildings and lampposts to celebrate the festivities.

The escort and mayor stand up with the district Victors and Champions. The escort beams at the audience while the mayor gives a familiar speech, and then it’s cut to the Capitol—Starla McFee sings the national anthem flawlessly. Then, like normal, the television screens show President Sinclair giving his speech from the Sixth Station, the place where the Hunger Games were first announced all those years ago. He reminds people of their past deeds, and promises a healthy future based upon the bright and vigorous present. The television screens cut back to the reaping platform, and the escort moves forward to the large glass globes that hold the names of all boys and girls aged 12-18. And from one ball, she draws the girl’s name, and from the other, the boy’s; she announces each after she draws it:

Nepeta Bellamy
&
Fallow Tenbury

OoC: You may now post in this thread to show your characters’ reaction to the reaping. Because all characters must be present in their own district, please only post here if your character belongs in this district or is the district escort. However, any district resident of this district may post: the new tributes, other teenagers, district residents of all ages, victors, etc.

If your character was chosen to be a Tribute, congratulations. He or she will be lead off to the Justice Building and cannot escape. At the Justice Building, a handful of family and friends can come in one or two at a time to wish your character good bye. If you wish to RP this, please make a separate thread in the District Square. Otherwise you may post at the training center.

Patience was outraged. The kids reaped were younger than she was, and there was no reason they should be sending someone so young to the Hunger Games where they would certainly die. How many more kids would be killed before her class stepped up to do something? She balled her fists and told herself to calm down. Inhale, exhale. Take a deep breath and think clearly. If she did anything now, she would ruin everything that they’ve been working for.

Amaethon had almost been late this morning, but had managed to pack up his brother and get to the square just in time. The kid was too young to be reaped, so he waited with their sullen parents out in the crowd while Amaethon himself joined the ranks of children.

It was odd. He was part of a class that was going to rescue all of Panem, and yet, there was nothing to save these kids getting reaped right now. Someone should volunteer for them or something. Put their words into action. But no one did. Amaethon didn’t.

It didn’t take a genius to realize that Nepeta really didn’t want to be here. The girl was, after all, standing slouched with her arms crossed against her chest and a grumpy expression on her face (no, she was not pouting, thank you very much, she simply had her bottom lip jutted out slightly in what could be considered a common pose). She had so many better things to do than to sit here and wait out for the next contestants in the Capitol’s foolish Games. She needed to meet the fairies in the forest to discuss important topics, and to check up on her pet troll. However, she was reminded by her elder brother that there was no getting out of this, so spending valuable time with her mythical friends was going to have to wait. It didn’t mean that she had to be happy about it, though. She could sulk all she wanted (even if she as well argued that she wasn’t sulking).

These things were always so slow, she realized not for the first time, as she waited for things to begin picking up the pace. Her parents had decided to drag the family out to the Reaping as soon as they possibly could, as usual, though Nepeta never really understood why that was. Did they think that there was a lesser chance of a Bellamy being Reaped if they showed up early? Nepeta inwardly scoffed at the very idea. While it would be quite nice, she highly doubted that anything of the sorts would happen, regardless of what her parents thought. A sudden voice snapped her out of her thoughts. It seemed that her favourite of her fairy friends had followed her to the Reaping, and Nepeta couldn’t help but have her mood a little uplifted by such a fact. Having her here would make things go a lot quicker, no doubt. The brunette went to respond to the tiny fairy, but before she managed to do so, was cut off again, this time by the ceremony starting.

It began with the same old same old, the national anthem being sung and a long winding speech being spoken, but there was something to this particular Reaping that made it so different from all of the others. It wasn’t the scenery, it wasn’t the set-up, it was the name that was called out for District 11’s female tribute.

“Nepeta Bellamy.”

Nepeta hadn’t even been paying attention when her name was called, but a nudge from the girl standing next to her made her realize the situation that she was in. Oh. Oh boy. Her face slightly less grumpy than before, as she was more shocked than anything, she shuffled out of the crowd and made her way down to the stage. Her initial reaction was one of shock and fear, though she collected herself with one thought. She was the Queen of the Fairies, yes? And the fairies wouldn’t let anything bad happen to their queen. Nepeta had their protection to rely on. However, she had never felt this little spark before, the one saying that even with this “advantage” (Nepeta still had yet to figure out that her mythical friends were in fact just make-believe), she couldn’t help but feel like maybe, just maybe, that wasn’t going to be enough for her.

Fallow woke up in a frightened daze, remembering the previous night's dark dreams. The reaping had occurred in his dream, and although it hadn't made any sense, Fallow was the only one that showed up. The camera's and escort were still there, as was the feeling of dread in the air that wafted throughout the reaping every year, but Fallow was alone standing in front of the stage. The large glass bowl had only one slip of paper inside, and of course, Fallow was reaped. He had no clue what it meant, but he was still uneasy as his consciousness flowed back to him.

After getting dressed in his whitest shirt and nicest pants, he wandered down to the town hall alone. He was relieved when he saw the familiar crowd of people, and his anxiousness over his dream's honesty faded. He eventually stood near the other 12 year old boys, and he engaged in small talk with his peers. Fallow honestly didn't care what the other boys were talking about, because he was just glad to get the looming thought him being reaped out of his mind.

Fallow thought that the dread and anxiety he was feeling was normal, and maybe it went away with age. He laughed to himself, remembering that his name was only in the lottery once; meaning that his being reaped was an unlikely outcome. He knew he would be fine, he just knew it.

Eventually, the actual reaping ceremony began, with the same video and the same rambling on that happened yearly. The escort reaped a sad looking girl who seemed to be unaware when it first happened. Fallow didn't know how she could have not been paying attention. He clenched his teeth as the escort began to reap the male tribute for his District.

"Fallow Tenbury"

The escort searched throughout the crowd, trying to find whoever that name belonged to. Little did they know, the name belonged to Fallow. He made his way shakily onto the stage, and he glare out at the mass of children who were safe this year. He would've given anything to be like them.
